The son of author, journalist and politician Yosef (“Tommy”) Lapid and author and playwright Shulamit Lapid

Lapid is one of Israel’s top creative minds. He has published 11 best-sellers, as well as plays and screenplays. Before entering politics, Lapid was one of Israel’s leading and most popular journalists. His journalistic career began during his military service, at the IDF magazine Bamachane, and he was subsequently appointed editor of the Tel Aviv Newspaper. In 1995, Lapid began hosting Channel One’s main talk show and, beginning in 1997, he hosted the talk show Yair Lapid Live at Ten on cable TV’s Channel 3. Beginning in 2000 and for eight years, he hosted the popular talk show, Yair Lapid.

From January 2008 and until his decision to enter political life in January 2013, Lapid anchored the Friday Studio newsreel on Channel 2, and in recent years he wrote the leading column in the Seven Days magazine section of Yedioth Aharonoth. In his column, Lapid wrote on a variety of topics, touching on matters of identity, proper governance and social issues.
